Primary Function
The Underwriter IV is responsible for responding to internal and external customers on questions regarding loans underwritten by the company. This position will underwrite loans in a timely manner for completeness and compliance with company guidelines, polices, and procedures. The Underwriter IV will also provide training, guidance, and support for all team members.

Principal Duties:

- Review, analyze and make final determination on loan submissions using manual underwriting guidelines as well as validating recommendations.
- Underwrite Jumbo loans, special programs as determined by lending authority set by management.
- Work with Correspondent or Consumer Lending to identify potential solutions/alternatives for difficult/denied loan files.
- Communicate with internal and external clients and UW Vendors on inquiries on loans underwritten by the company/vendors.
- Research and respond to team lead on loans requiring additional escalation and review and ability to summarize issues, concerns, and recommendations.
- Proactively addresses underwriting submission deficiencies.
- Provide back-up support to Team Leader as necessary to ensure efficient operations and smooth and timely flow of work.
- Review and maintain guidelines to stay up to date with all requirements.
- Review of audit files for Quality/Funding issues to determine compliance and acceptance of loan.
- Assist in correction of delivery violations and government ensuring deficiencies on specific files as required.
- Analyze Trust agreements as needed.
- Participate in the orientation of new personnel to ensure consistency.
- Provide technical support for systems as necessary.

Education and Experience

- High School Diploma or equivalent required; 4-year college degree preferred.
- 6-7 years of underwriting experience with conforming and non-conforming loans required.
- Minimum six (6) years of mortgage banking required, including Jumbo Loans and/or Government Products.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Government designations preferred.
- Ability to differentiate between first and second mortgage underwriting.
- Ability to handle secure and private information.
- Technical experience necessary: Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Underwriting software and systems.
- Ability to stay current with the business environment within third party lending.
- Excellent customer service skills and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to a constantly changing environment.
- Ability to be a creative and innovative problem solver.
A good faith estimate of the compensation is:
69,100.00 - 115,920.00Compensation for this position may also include other elements, including medical, financial, various paid time off benefits, and a bonus based on individual and company performance, variable or annual.
Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, location, etc.
